Pet Firework Advice

It's that time of year where fireworks are a common occurence in the evenings, as is the worry & stress for our beloved pets. Though some animals aren't bothered by the flashes and bangs outside, many pets display signs of anxiety and stress at sudden loud noises

We've found some great advice & tips to help support your furry friends, and keep them calm during firework season -

* Walk your dog during daylight hours to avoid times when fireworks are likely to be set off

* Close windows and curtains to muffle the sound of fireworks

* Put on some music or TV to mask the firework sounds - Classic FM have a special Pet Classics show 5-9pm on Saturday 2nd and Tuesday 5th November

* Give your pet a safe space - somewhere quiet, as far away from the bangs and lights as possible

* Provide hiding places in your home .e.g. under furniture or a quiet corner for cats and smaller dogs

* Keep your cats inside the house to avoid them becoming stressed

* If your pet is showing signs of anxiety, try and catch them before they become too upset. Distract them with a toy or a favourite game

* For outdoor pets, place their indoor cages in a quiet room and outdoor hutches in a garage or shed if possible, to limit any noise

* Once the fireworks are over, let your pet come out from their safe space in their own time. A healthy treat is always a good motivator if they are a little wary, and ensure you provide them with lots of snuggles and reassurance
