Q&A With Kim, Housekeeper At Bike & Boot Scarborough

When you work at our Scarborough seafront hotel, you're joining a family!

In our latest Q&A, we spoke to Kim, one of our Housekeepers. Read on to discover all about the work socials, how her role has expanded and the best things to do in Scarborough.

Tell us about yourself and your role at the hotel. When did you start?

From when the Bike & Boot Scarborough hotel first opened in 2020, I've worked in the housekeeping team. I previously worked with the Head Housekeeper, Janet, in other hotels, so it was great to see a friendly face when I started!

Over the last two years, my role has extended and I have worked in the Front Hall and the Bareca, as well as the housekeeping team.

What is the best thing about your job? What do you enjoy the most?

I love the relaxed feel of the hotel! The guests are really friendly and always comment on the great atmosphere.

I enjoy working in the different departments and especially meeting all the dogs - they help to break the ice with the guests.

I also have a great relationship between the staff and we all socialise out of work. We play football once a week and enjoy the great things to do in Scarborough.

What makes Bike & Boot Scarborough so special and unique to other hotels?

You can tell from the reaction of the guests when they come to the hotel that they love the informality. If they have dogs they can't get over the dog grooming area in the Wadobi and how welcome dogs are made! I love meeting the dogs and we always have treats for them.

The Film Club really amazes the guests and they love that you can help yourself to hot drinks and cake at tea time - it really feels like home.

The views from the hotel are fantastic and everything Scarborough has to offer is a real bonus.

What's your favourite thing about Scarborough and why?

Scarborough has everything! I'm a qualified sailing instructor and power boat driver, so I'm a real outdoors girl. This is good for life in Scarborough as I love surfing in the North Bay.

I especially love the Open Air Theatre as I like to see live music. Scarborough is a great place to live and work.

What's your favourite dog breed and why?

I get to meet lots of dogs and owners at the hotel, so I love all dog breeds. But, my favourite dog breed is a Newfoundland or anything big and hairy! I love their temperament.
